A group of East Tennesseans who support immigration reform gathered to express their gratitude to Tennessee's US senators on Monday.
Organizing for Action held a rally to say thank you to Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker for voting in support of a bipartisan Senate immigration reform plan last week. The bipartisan plan calls for strengthening border patrols and allows a path to citizenship for many undocumented immigrants.
The group also urged Tennessee's representatives, including Congressman Jimmy Duncan, to back the plan as it moves into the House.
"It's going to change the world. It's going to change the world, it's going to change America. This is good for the economy, this is good for workers, this is good for employers. This is, having a streamlined comprehensive immigration bill is just going to be good, period," said June Jones, a volunteer for Organizing for Action.
After the rally, the advocates delivered letters of support for immigration reform to Congressman Duncan's office.
It's not clear when the House will vote on the bill. Several representatives have said the bill is "dead on arrival."
