The City of Athens has decided to postpone its 4th of July celebration until Saturday, because of the risk of rain.
The show was originally set for Thursday evening at Athens Regional Park. It has been reset for Saturday at 9:30 pm.
"Due to the size of our show it has to be preloaded and that is almost impossible to do if the amount of rain falls that is forecast on the 4th," said Austin Fesmire, Director of Parks and Recreation. "The Saturday forecast appears that it will give us enough time to load the shells and be ready to shoot at 9:30 that evening. "
The Shakin' the Lake & Award Celebration set for July 3 have also been postponed. This includes the downtown inflatibles, food vendors and Award Celebration and the Shakin' the Lake fireworks show. A new date has not been set.
The 27th Annual 4th of July Boat Parade has also been canceled due to weather conditions.
The City of Oak Ridge announced Tuesday they will postpone their fireworks until Sunday night, also due to the weather forecast.
