Work to repair past flood damage along a popular Smokies trail is now finished.
Park Rangers opened the Chimney Tops trail on weekends once again this week. It's been closed since January, when high flood waters destroyed a pedestrian bridge at the beginning of the trail.
Crews have worked over the past several weeks to replace the 70-foot long bridge.
The trail will remain closed Monday through Thursday while the park's Trails Forever Crew begins the second phase of an ongoing effort to completely rehabilitate the trail.
That work is expected to continue through October.
