(WBIR - Knoxville) Tuesday night's Knoxville City Council meeting began the same way it has for years, with an invocation. That's in spite of a recent letter to the city by an organization that is trying to remove prayer from government meetings.
The Freedom From Religion Foundation recently mailed the city a warning, claiming the invocation violates the separation of church and state.
They have mailed similar letters to other governments around East Tennessee and the nation.
Council attorney Rob Frost says the city is still looking into the matter, and the issue of the letter did not come up during the meeting.
