(WBIR-Morristown) Longtime Walters State Baseball Head Coach Ken Campbell announced his retirement from the game Tuesday morning.

According to a school press release, 14 of his 39-year head coaching career were spent at Walters State. The career included 1,200 wins and nearly 1,800 games coached.

Campbell wanted to focus on his family including his grandson Kevin Campbell, who is one of his biggest fans.

"It was time," Campbell said in the press release. "I've been in education for 49 years and been a head baseball coach for 39 years, and it was just time. My wife and I have some health issues that we want to take care of, and hopefully this will allow me to spend some more time with my grandson Kevin and my family."

The Walters State Senators went to the JUCO World Series this season under Campbell's leadership.

Campbell is a member of the TCCAA Hall of Fame.
