Old Fashioned Southern Okra

1 - 1 1/2 pounds fresh, tender okra, rinsed, drained and cut
1 pound fresh tomatoes, peeled and chopped
1/4 cup finely diced green bell pepper
1/4 cup finely diced sweet onion
2 tablespoons bacon drippings
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh, whole kernel corn, optional


In a large skillet, melt bacon drippings over medium high heat. Add corn (if using), bell pepper and onion. Cook until onion and pepper is crisp tender. Add okra and raise heat to high. Cook, stirring constantly until okra is lightly browned. Add tomatoes. Cook until heated through. Serve immediately. Corn bread is really good with this dish.
