Townsend man dies after being pulled from Little River

A Townsend man died Thursday night after being pulled from the Little River at Peery's Mill.

According to the Blount County Sheriff's Department, Bobby William Halcomb, 25, was out of the water when emergency personel arrived.  A friend was administering CPR, then a deputy took over until Halcomb could be transferred to an ambulance.

Halcomb was taken to UT Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.  An autopsy confirmed it was an accidental drowning.

(WBIR - Walland) The Blount County Sheriff's Office is investigating a swimming accident at Peery's Mill Dam in the Walland area of Blount County off Hwy. 321.

Efforts were underway to revive the 25-year-old man when the ambulance left the scene.

TWRA officials say they believe the man jumped off the dam and was caught in the undercurrent, which kept him underwater for an extended amount of time.

The victim was transported to Blount Memorial Hospital.
