(WBIR - Pineville, Kentucky) A local veteran of the United States Marine Corps is stirring up support nationwide following his appearance on the NBC show "America's Got Talent."

Pineville, Kentucky musician Jimmy Rose appeared on the show earlier this week. He entertained judges in New Orleans with his original song "Coal Keeps the Lights On".

Rose will now go to Las Vegas to continue the competition for that show's one million dollar grand prize. On Saturday, Rose performed a free concert for fans at the Bell County Fairgrounds, just outside of Pineville.

Many people in the crowd have found Rose's success inspiring.

"[It] just shows that if you do come from a small town, [and] pursue your dreams, anything can happen," said his sister Victoria Laws.

His girlfriend Heather Morgan also said it's been amazing to watch him chase his dreams.

"He's very friendly, outgoing," she said. "He would take the shirt off his back right now just to give it to you."

America's Got Talent released Rose's song on YouTube earlier this week. It already has more than 1 million views. The message of Rose's song is part of the reason he has found so much success.

Many people believe Rose, who also used to be a coal miner, is getting the word out about a resource that's integral to much of Appalachia.

"It's not like a politician saying it or an environmental lobbyist saying it or a coal lobbyist saying it," said Bell County Judge Executive Albey Brock. "This is real. This is a person saying it. It's not political."

Sunday, at 3pm, at the courthouse square in Pineville, community leaders and residents will come together for Jimmy Rose Appreciation Day. NBC crews and representatives from Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell's office will also be in attendance.

As for Rose's next appearance on America's Got Talent, Morgan said that has yet to be determined. She said she and Rose are still waiting to hear from producers as to when he will fly out to Las Vegas.
