Alcoa Police Chief passes away

(WBIR - Alcoa) The Alcoa City Manager announced Sunday evening that Police Chief, Ken Burge, passed away at his home on Sunday.

Chief Burge has been the Alcoa Police Chief since September 2004.

City Manager Mark Johnson stated in a release, "It is a very sad time for the department and for the City. Ken was a true leader who dedicated his life to public safety and serving others."

The release said Burge worked in law enforcement for more than 39 years. He also previously served on the board for Blount County 911, and also the 5th Judicial District Drug Task force.

According to the release, Chief Burge lived in Alcoa with his wife, Bettiann.

The family will be receiving friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday July 17, 2013 at Smiths Funeral Home in Maryville. The service will immediately follow at 7 p.m.

The burial is set to be held in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
