(WBIR - Hawkins Co.) A plan to temporarily close a popular campground and shoreline fishing area has upset some East Tennessee fishermen.

TVA will close the area near the John Sevier Fossil Plant starting in September. That's near Rogersville in Hawkins County.

TVA spokesman Travis Brickey said closing the parking lot and shoreline on the Holston River are necessary for safety. Brickey says TVA will be using heavy equipment to permanently cap the coal ash containment facility for the old steam plant.

Capping the ash facility could take four or more years.

Fishermen have filed a petition complaining about the closure.
