(WBIR - Bean Station) Nearly two months after a man robbed a Bean Station pharmacy for its pills, killing two and injuring two others, the city hosted an inaugural anti-violence event.
The "Rock out against violence hometown ho down" was held by members of the community that said they want to see an end to senseless violence especially violence driven by drug-dependency which has impacted many area families.
"Today is my sons birthday. He would be 28 today but he died 8 years ago of a drug overdose. And I know drugs are really bad and had something to do with that guy shooting those people in the pharmacy. He was robbing them for Oxycontin. I just wish someone would have gotten to my son before it happened. Then maybe he would be here to celebrate his birthday," Charles Halliwell, one of the event organizers said.
Jason Bryan Holt is charged with two counts of pre-meditated first degree murder in the two deaths at that pharmacy.
