Former UT quarterback Eric Ainge thanks fans for support after DUI arrest

On Monday morning, former UT quarterback and radio talk show host Eric Ainge released a statement to 10News about his DUI arrest over the weekend:

"I have always been completely transparent about my professional and personal life. I've been an open book about my past struggles. This situation is no different. When the time is right I will explain exactly what happened, but right now I have to let the legal issues play out. I appreciate the outpouring of support from my listeners, my VOL family, and my Tennessee Sports Radio family."

Update Sunday 6 p.m:

Ainge's attorney told 10News Sunday evening that pending criminal matter, it would not be appropriate to comment at this time.

(WBIR - Knoxville) Knoxville Police Department said former UT and Jets quarterback, Erik Ainge, was arrested for DUI early Sunday morning.

KPD said at approximately 1:13 a.m. Sunday morning an officer observed a 2014 GMC Sierra swerving as the vehicle traveled on I-40 West near the West Hills exit.

According to KPD, the officer pulled the vehicle over and the driver, Erik Ainge, failed the field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence, implied consent, and roadway lane violation.

KCSO told 10News Ainge was released at 5:21 a.m. after paying a $500 bail.

Ainge was UT's quarterback from 2004 to 2008. He currently has his own radio show, The Eric Ainge Show.

In 2011, he admitted to struggling with drug and alcohol abuse and sought help.
