2 men injured in 2 shootings on same street in same day

(WBIR-Knoxville) Police have identified two men shot in seperate incidents on the same east Knoxville street on the same day.

According to a KPD press release, police found 36-year-old Jack Chesney of Knoxville with life-threatening gunshot wounds behind an apartment building in the Walter P. Taylor housing development early Wednesday afternoon. 

Officers had been called there to investigate a shooting around 3:30 p.m.

Crews took Chesney to UT Medical Center for treatment.

Later that night, police went to investigate gunshots and the report of a man with gunshot wounds on the 2200 block of the same street, Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue.

Around 10:30 p.m. they found 54-year-old Larry Gray of Knoxville.  Gray had been shot.

Like Chesney, Crews took Gray to UT Medical Center for treatment.

Police are continuing to investigate both shootings.

(WBIR-East Knoxville) Police are investigating two east Knoxville shootings that happened on the same street within hours of each other. 

According to the Knoxville Police Department, the first one happened in the early afternoon on Wednesday.

It happened around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Walter P. Taylor homes.

When officers and ambulances arrived on the scene, they found a man lying behind the apartment complex. Investigators say someone had shot him.

Medical crews took him to UT Medical Center.  They are not releasing his identity at this time. 

Police say the man's injuries were life-threatening.

An investigation is ongoing.

The second ocurred around 10:30 a.m. the same night. 

In a press release, police say they were called to the 2200 block of MLK Ave. to check out a report of gunshots and a gunshot victim lying in the grass.

Officers found a 54-year-old man with two gunshot wounds. He was taken to UT Medical Center.

Police say the victim did not tell them who shot him or why. The name of the victim has not been released.

Police say they are still investigating the shooting.
