David Freeman Clay, 58, homeless
(WBIR-Northwest Knoxville) A homeless man is facing aggravated rape and aggravated kidnapping charges after a victim told police he held her captive for five hours in northwest Knoxville Tuesday.
The victim said David Freeman Clay, 58, grabbed her by the throat and pulled her into a building on the 1800 block of Ailor Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. She told KPD that she was unable to call for help because Clay choked her. According to a Knox County affidavit, Clay allegedly violently raped her inside the building and struck her head against a wall, knocking her unconscious.
The victim said Clay threatened her with an object, which appeared to be a knife, while holding her against her will. At about 10:30 p.m., the victim escaped from the building with the suspect's cell phone, and called police.
Authorities said the victim suffered injuries to her neck, which were consistent with her report to police.
Clay is being held in the Knox County Jail on two bonds amounting to $1 million.
