(WBIR - Clinton) Defendants in two different cases in Anderson County are asking a judge to drop the charges against them after the installation of four "In God We Trust" signs on the courthouse.
The signs were put on display above the courthouse's doors last week with money raised from private citizens.
Since then, a Clinton attorney has filed motions on behalf of two defendants to have their cases dropped.
They argue that the signs indicate a religious preference which would violate the First Amendment, and they will not receive a fair trial in the courthouse.
Both ask for their cases to be dismissed with prejudice, which means they could not be brought to trial at a future date.
