The Knox County Sheriff's Office says a kidnap suspect has been taken into custody without incident.
Stephen Mayes was wanted for kidnapping his estranged wife at gunpoint Monday morning.
Deputies say he showed up at a Tennova emergency room and hospital officials called 911.
The Knox County Sheriff's Office says it is searching for a man who kidnapped his estranged wife at gunpoint early Monday morning.
Authorities say 41-year-old Stephen Mayes hid in the bushes around 5 a.m. and forced his way into her car when she arrived at her workplace.
According to the report, Stephen Mayes then drove the car to a gas station in Farragut where he tried to force her into the trunk. Authorities say she fought back and managed to run inside a convenience store for help.
Investigators say Mayes then took off on foot.
Authorities used K-9s and a helicopter for three hours searching for Mayes. They called off the search around 1:30 and say they believe he may have gotten a ride out of the area.
