The brother of a man who shot three people in Bell County, Kentucky, then killed himself, says he is shocked by what happened.
"This was completely out of the blue, completely unexpected," said Raymond Smith's brother, who didn't want to be identified.
Kentucky State Police say 51-year-old Raymond Curtis Smith shot his former girlfriend, 21-year-old Robin Smith, and her father and brother. 50-year-old Michael Smith and 21-year-old Mychael Dustin Smith both died at the scene.
Paramedics flew Robin Smith to U-T Medical Center. UT can release no information about her current condition.
Raymond Smith then drove to his father's grave at a cemetery in neighboring Knox County, Kentucky, and shot and killed himself.
Smith's brother says the brother he knew was kind, giving and fun, not a murderer.
He says he didn't believe the news at first, and the magnitude of the tragedy still hasn't sunk in.
"Do we have any idea what might have been going through his mind? Really, no. I don't think we will ever really know what was going on in his mind," he said.
Raymond's brother says both families will never be the same and he sends his sincerest condolences to the Smith family.
