(WBIR-Knoxville) When classes start Wednesday at the University of Tennessee, some students will walk into brand-new buildings and classrooms.

Tuesday,  UT officials gave a tour of the brand-new John D. Tickle Engineering Building. The five-story, 110-thousand square foot building has been under construction for more than two-and-a- half years.

It will house the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Industrial and Systems Engineering.

The building has two dozen labs, including one designed for asphalt surface testing.

UT plans to hold a formal dedication ceremony for the building on October 4th during a celebration of the engineering program's 175th anniversary.

The Tickle Engineering Building isn't the only new building open to students this semester. The Natalie Haslam Music Center also will open its doors to students for the first time.
