Jessica Lundgaard, with Sugarful, shows us how to make a great dessert for tailgating - Saltine Toffee.
- Saltine Crackers: 4-6 ounces
- Unsalted Butter: 1 cup
- Dark Brown Sugar: 1 cup
- Semisweet Chocolate Chips: 2 cups
- Chopped Pecans or Walnuts: 3/4 cup
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Line cookie sheet with parchment paper. Followed by a single layer of saltine crackers.
Bring the brown sugar and butter to a boil over medium-high heat. Allow to boil for 3 minutes while stirring occasionally. Immediately pour sugar mixture over saltine crackers. Spread evenly with wooden spoon to cover crackers completely.
Bake at 400 degrees F for 5 to 6 minutes. Sugar mixture will be bubbling. Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips over the bubbling sugar mixture. Let chocolate sit for 5 minutes. Spread melted chocolate and sprinkle with chopped nuts.
Refrigerate to chill until set. Break into pieces and ENJOY!
Health up the toffee by using pumpkin seeds, cashews, and dried fruit or substitute the pecans for crushed pretzels and marshmallows. Get creative!
