Mike Hearon has been missing since August 23, 2008.
(WBIR - Blounty County) Five years after Mike Hearon disappeared, his friends and family refuse to give up their search.
Hearon was last seen Saturday, August 23, 2008 in the Happy Valley area of Blount County.
This Saturday, his loved ones held their annual "Hike for Mike," where about 100 people trekked through Abrams Creek Campground.
"We knew he was [in Happy Valley], but when he didn't show up for lunch on Sunday at his mom's home, he always called or told us he wasn't going to be there, that kind of started raising some red flags and we started contacting some friends," said Hearon's daughter-in-law, Jamey Hearon, remembering the day it happened.
"I'll remember that day forever," added Hearon's friend Craig Garrett. "We were leaving on a motorcycle trip and I got a call from the sheriff wanting to know if Mike Hearon was with us. They told us what was going on. It's a real tragedy and nobody really knows."
It is a situation Hearon's youngest son, Matt Hearon, has difficulty understanding.
"He always wanted to be a grandfather. He wanted that right away from me and my brother," he said. "Now, we have a child and another one on the way. My brother has two kids. It's just sad that he can't be here to go through all of that with us."
A $35,000 reward is being offered for information regarding Hearon's whereabouts. Anyone with information is asked to call the Blount County Sheriff's Office at (865) 273 - 5001 or the 24-hour Crime Hotline at (865) 273 - 5200.
