(WBIR-Knoxville) Northfolk Southern Railway announced Monday its trains will start moving faster through parts of Knoxville.
The railway will raise track speed from 30 mph to 50 for a 15-mile patch, stretching from parts of west-to-east Knoxville starting Sunday.
Officials said the higher speeds will not only reduce the traffic, but also improve safety. The railway company said more crashes at train crossings occur when trains are traveling at slower speeds.
