(WBIR - Knoxville) Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett has been rumored to be considering a run against Senator Lamar Alexander.
But do those rumors have any truth behind them? Mayor Burchett joined us in the 10News studio with some answers.
Burchett has previously worked as a state senator before his run for county mayor, and now he's considering a run for U.S. Senate.
"It's something I'm considering. I'd be disingenuous if I said otherwise," said the mayor.
When asked when he'll make the decision whether or not to run, he said he's currently praying on the issue, and will "figure it out eventually." But, he says he has to make the call by January, because that's when the paperwork needs to be filed.
The Tennessee tea party has already announced a challenger to Sen. Alexander, claiming the senator is not conservative enough. They say Rep. Joe Carr is a better fit for the job.
Other possible candidates for the race include Brenda Lenard of Knoxville, who lost to U.S. Sen. Bob Corker in the Republican primary two years
ago, and attorney Kevin Kookogey, former chairman of the Williamson County Republican Party.
