A Sevierville man with a history of DUI and other driving offenses is facing charges in a crash that left a Knoxville man dead and six others hurt.

Scott Spangler is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, driving on a revoked license and drug possession.

The crash happened Friday night on Governor John Sevier Highway near Austin Park Lane. Witnesses told authorities that Spangler was swerving, then crossed the center line and hit an SUV, which spun around and crashed into a van.

The driver of the SUV, Benjamin Woodruff, was killed. Woodruff's 7-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter and three people inside the van were hurt.

Authorities say when police arrived at the scene, they found Spangler standing in the street urinating and later found a marijuana pipe in his car. He told them he was taking roxycodone for pain.

Spangler's criminal history includes multiple DUI and revoked license convictions.
