(WBIR - Louisville) Alumni of an East Tennessee alcohol and drug treatment center reunited this weekend to give inspiration for those currently fighting through addiction.

Former patients of Cornerstone of Recovery joined together on Saturday for the center's annual cookout celebration which gave them a chance to meet with their old counselors, former peers, and those currently in the program.

John Hood works for the Cornerstone Foundation and knows the struggles that can come with addiction. He is a recovering alcoholic and said he's been sober now for twenty years.

Hood said Cornerstone's recovery plan is a building blocks program that is pretty magical as they work to treat a person's mind, body and soul.

But recovery takes time.

"Treatment is here. Treatment is discovering there's a problem and discovering there's hope. And long term recovery takes place in the rooms of 12 step organizations," Hood said.

This year's reunion also served as a fundraiser for the Bill and Andy foundation which helps support long-term drug and alcohol recovery options.
