For Gov. Chris Christie - and potentially any married man out there - there was no question whom he'd be spending time with when a conflict arose on his schedule: his wife of two decades.

"In a choice between Mary Pat Christie and Rand Paul, it's no choice for me," Christie said Tuesday about being invited to a campaign event where Sen. Paul, R-Ky., will be in attendance. "I'll be with Mary Pat."

Paul will be campaigning Sept. 13 in the Garden State for Senate hopeful Steve Lonegan, who is in an uphill battle against Democrat Cory Booker in the special Senate election to pick a successor to the late Frank Lautenberg. Christie, who recently endorsed his ex-rival Lonegan in the Senate race, also was invited to the same event.

As Christie explained, he had long ago planned to take his wife for the weekend to celebrate her 50th birthday, which is Sept. 15.

Paul and Christie - both potential 2016 presidential candidates - feuded in July over national security, anti-terrorism strategy and federal budgets. After trading barbs for a couple of days, Paul suggested that he and Christie "kiss and make up" over a beer. Christie responded by saying he was too busy running for re-election in New Jersey to come to Washington.

Christie is still too busy to hang out with Paul - and he won't raise the ire of his wife to boot.
