(WBIR-Knoxville) Young-Williams Animal Center temporarily closed its two Knoxville locations Wednesday for distemper.

The location on 3201 Division Street will be closed for one day. Young-Williams Animal Village on 6400 Kingston Pike will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

According to a release, two dogs tested positive for distemper at the Division Street location. The shelter's staff and veterinary team have quarantined the dog adoption area to prevent the infection from spreading and are conducting medical testing.

"As an open intake shelter that has taken in over 60 animals each day this summer, we are always vulnerable to diseases from our community, " said Jeff Ashin, CEO of Young-Williams Animal Center, in release. "Our intake process includes a distemper vaccination for each animal. It is our understanding that distemper cases in our area are on the rise. This makes vaccinating your pet more important than ever before."
