A man charged with murdering a Cocke County mother will be getting a new attorney.
McKinley Lane Cody appeared in court Monday for a status hearing related to the murder of Lora Costner. The attorney representing Cody was relieved by the court because he had a conflict.
Costner's remains were found in March, two months after she disappeared.
Investigators previously revealed that she died from blunt force trauma to the back of the head. Cocke County Sheriff Armondo Fontes said after Cody killed Costner, he tried to conceal her body and tried to burn and destroy evidence.
The sheriff also said Cody stole prescription pain medication from Costner.
When authorities discovered Costner's body in March, neighbors told 10News the property owner was related to Kathy Cody Williams, the former E-911 director for Cocke County.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation identified McKinley Cody as Kathy Cody Williams' son.
Cody and Williams had previously been charged with attempting to smuggle drugs into the Cocke County Jail. She was also in court Monday for arraignment on those drug charges.
The next hearing on Cody's murder charges is November 15.
