Jailer accused of sneaking drugs into jail

A Jefferson County jailer is facing charges, accused of trying to smuggle drugs to inmates.

Sheriff Bud McCoig says he watched 20-year-old Deputy Aaron Scott Winstead take tobacco and suboxone to the jail back in June. The sheriff fired Winstead and asked the TBI to investigate.

A grand jury indicted Winstead on Monday on several charges. He's now out on bond following his arrest.
