Knoxville police respond to East Knoxville shooting

Knoxville police is investigating a shooting that left one man hurt.

UPDATE: Knoxville Police is investigating a shooting at the 2900 block of Sunset Avenue that left one person with non-life threatening injuries. 

According to police, officers originally responded to a report of a shooting at the 2600 block of Martin Luther King Junior Avenue. Upon arrival, officers learned a male victim had already left the scene for the hospital with a gun shot wound to the back. 

Police said officers learned the shooting actually happened at the 2900 block of Sunset Avenue, and the victim drove himself to the 2600 block of Martin Luther King Junior Avenue. 

According to the release from police, the victim was then taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center via personal vehicle for treatment of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. 

Police are continuing to investigate. 

ORIGINAL STORY: Knoxville Police Department is responding to a shooting in East Knoxville, according to Knox County dispatch.

Dispatch said a call came in around 6:12 p.m. of a shooting at 2603 Martin Luther King Junior Avenue. 

Knoxville Police officers are on scene.
