KPD: Man covered in soot arrested for starting two fires at businesses

KNOXVILLE - Firefighters with the Knoxville Fire Department responded to a fire at the E-Z In & Out Liquor Store off Chapman Highway at the back of the building around 7:30 Saturday morning. 

A witness nearby saw smoke coming from the back of the building and a man walking towards the front of the building, covered in soot.

A short time later, someone called 911 to report another fire at a business across the street from the liquor store. 

Knoxville Police officers arrived and arrested the man on arson-related charges. They have identified him as Ricky Newman.
