KNOXVILLE - A lieutenant with the Knoxville Police Department was on his patrol Friday afternoon when he spotted a woman being dragged by a vehicle in a pharmacy parking lot.

Lt. R. Taylor tried to stop the silver PT Cruiser, but it took off, luckily releasing the woman who was hanging by the window before speeding away. KPD says she was a CVS employee trying to stop a robbery.

Taylor pursued the vehicle from the CVS on Clinton Highway at Merchant's Dr. for several moments as it wound through nearby streets, finally crashing on Greer Road.

The man and woman inside the car took off into the woods, but it didn't take long for Knoxville police officers and Knox County sheriff's deputies to track them down, with the help of K9 officers and helicopters.

Derrick Kirkland, 28. and Samantha Price were arrested and both taken to the hospital for treatment. Kirkland said he was injured in the crash and Price told officers she was pregnant.

Both are facing robbery and other related charges. Kirkland also had several outstanding theft warrants.
