A Knox County jury convicted a man on a theft charge of a car battery at a Turkey Creek Walmart.
Knox County Criminal Court Judge Bob McGhee set Sharles Johnson’s case sentencing for Jan. 26, 2017.
In November 2014, Johnson tried to place a car battery into his shopping cart, and push the cart past all cash registers, according to the Knox County District Attorney General’s Office.
Johnson claimed he was profiled and harassed. He also claimed he stole the battery to create an opportunity to confront the store’s loss prevention employees.
The jury rejected Johnson’s argument after an hour of deliberation.
