Police: 2 men suspected of stealing Tin Man head at Land of Oz

Police are searching for two suspects in a Land of Oz trespassing and vandalism case.

BEECH MOUNTAIN, N.C. - The Beech Mountain Police Department in North Carolina is asking the public for assistance in identifying to men in surveillance video footage in a vandalism and trespassing case at the Land of Oz.

The police department said the two men are suspected of stealing the head of the Tin Man at the venue during the weekend.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (828)387-2342.

The park opened in June of 1970 with large crowds the first summer, making it a leading attraction in the Southeast. The park remained opened for 10 years, but economic issues and new theme parks to compete against forced the owners to close in 1980.

The Land of Oz opened for Friday tours in June.
