Thieves break into Horse Haven, steal cash, overfeed animals

Deputies are investigating a break in at a horse rescue in west Knox County.

The director of Horse Haven says volunteers came to work Monday morning and found the lock to the gate cut off. Someone broke into the office, some other buildings, and vehicles.

The thief got away with some money but the director says she's most concerned about the organization's mascot, Twinkie, a miniature pony.

The thieves gave him and his pasture mates an entire bale of alfalfa hay. The feed is rich, and the animals shouldn't eat that much at a time. The director says they're concerned the animals could develop stomach issues.

If anyone with information is asked to contact the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
