Two arrested for illegally harvesting ginseng

Two men out of Kentucky are charged with illegally harvesting ginseng.

Wendell Dople and Joseph Dople were stopped on suspicion of DUI in Scott County. Deputies say they found two pounds of freshly harvested ginseng in the car.

On average, dried wild ginseng sells for around $400 per pound in Tennessee.

Wild ginseng can be harvested legally, but only during certain times of the year, and is never legal to take from a national park.
