Firefighters pull unconscious man from apartment blaze

The Knoxville Fire Department was dispatched at 6:24 p.m. to the Knoxwood Apartments on 2636 Wimpole Ave. after an apartment reportedly caught fire.

When crews arrived on the scene Saturday evening, they saw thick smoke billowing from a broken window of a ground floor unit. Firefighters then forced entry into the residence and discovered an unconscious victim just inside the door.

The victim, a young adult male, was pulled outside and given immediate medical attention. He was then transported to UT Medical Center.

His condition is unknown at this time. No other injuries were reported.

Damage was contained to a rear bedroom of the two-bedroom unit. All 10 units of the complex have had their power disconnected until electricians can confirm isolation of the unit involved, according to KFD.

The investigation of the cause of the blaze is ongoing.
