The City of Knoxville moves towards becoming more energy efficient.
On Wednesday, Mayor Madeline Rogero announced the city's participation in a national energy efficiency program. It aims to reduce the city's energy consumption by 20% by 2020 in 99 city buildings.
Mayor Madeline Rogero praised the Knoxville Convention Center for their new installation of solar panels by a private company.
"So this is a great example- a 90 kilowatt solar array. We are a hot bed of activity for solar power in this area, we are growing. This is a significant jump to have 90 kilowatts on the Convention Center roof," said Mayor Rogero
The energy the solar panels will generate will go back to TVA and help lower costs in the center and in the city.
