Do's and Dont's: homemade food vs. store bought

(WBIR) Many people can cut down on their calorie intake just by taking a few simple steps. Look at the labels, and it can go a long way.

For example, some sugar free cookies really don't give any advantage over their counterparts, according to Janet Sieber. In fact, there may only be a 5 calorie difference between the two.

And rather than buying a store-bought frozen pizza, making your own home-made pizza can cut down on calories by nearly half. Just use whole grain dough and a healthier cheese.

If you're looking for some vitamins, juices might not be the way to go. They're filled with sugar and while they have some of the nutrients you need, they don't have the fiber that comes with the real fruit.

And for breakfast, choose a whole grain cereal filled with fiber. A good guideline would be a cereal that has at least 2 grams of fiber, but no more than 10 grams of sugar.
