Healthier Tennessee: Americans are making better food choices

(WBIR) Living a healthier lifestyle is something a lot of us want to do, but where do we start?

Gov. Bill Haslam recently launched an initiative, encouraging Tennesseans to exercise, eat right, and not smoke. It's called Healthier Tennessee, and it's mission is to bring companies, schools, and health care providers together to improve the quality of life.

Saturday's topic is on how new data suggests that Americans are already making healthier food choices.

Data from the NPD Group, a market research firm, shows that fruit is now the second most popular food in the U.S., moving up from the number five spot over the last decade. Sandwiches continue to be the most popular food in the country.

NPD Group reports that Americans still need to eat more vegetables. If you want to add more veggies to your diet, consider adding vegetables like shredded carrots, cucumber, and spinach to your sandwiches.
