Local dairy recalls Cruze Farm Girl ice cream

A local dairy is recalling its vanilla ice cream.

Jersey Ridge Dairy of Knoxville and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture announced Tuesday it is voluntarily recalling Cruze Farm Girl Vanilla Ice Cream because of improper pasteurization.

The affected product was produced on March 7 and distributed to several stores in the Knoxville area, but all product has since been removed from shelves.

The recall affects the 1 pint (16 oz.) containers with a red label with Cruze Farm Girl printed on it. Vanilla is handwritten on the label. "PRODUCED AT PLANT 47-245" is also printed on the product.

Improperly pasteurized dairy products may contain harmful bacteria and therefore should not be consumed. If you've purchased the affected product, you should return it to where you bought it for a full refund or replacement.

No illnesses have been associated with the use of the recalled product at this time.
