Volunteers help residents apply for healthcare before March 31 deadline

The clock is ticking to sign up for health care coverage in the national insurance marketplace.

Tuesday, Mayor Madeline Rogero met with a group of volunteers working to help Knoxville residents apply for coverage before open enrollment ends on March 31st.

The volunteers will help pass out information and answer questions. They'll also work one-on-one with people to help them sign up at upcoming enrollment events.

Mayor Rogero says she wants to make sure people who still need coverage have access to the help they need and the law is followed.

"Despite the controversy, this is, you know, we're approaching this from a non-partisan/non-political way. This is the law. It is something that's available to people. And so we encourage them to get the health care coverage that they need," she said.
