10-year-old Morristown boy killed in two-vehicle crash

A 10-year-old boy died in a Hamblen County crash on Thursday afternoon.

MORRISTOWN - A 10-year-old Morristown boy died in a Thursday afternoon car crash.

A crash report from the Morristown Police Department said the boy was riding as a passenger of a Nissan Sentra, which was driven by a 17-year-old girl. The Nissan was headed westbound on Springvale Road near Highway 160 around 3:54 p.m. Thursday.

The driver of the Nissan failed to yield to southbound traffic on Highway 160. The failure to yield caused the driver of a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, Zachary Williams, 26, of Jonesborough, to crash into the passenger side of the Nissan.

Authorities took the girl to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, and Williams to Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System.

The impact of the crash sent both vehicles into a spin backwards into the guard rail.

The police report said speed does not appear to have played a factor.

The report said the Nissan pulled directly into the path of the Toyota, leaving Williams no time to brake.

Morristown police did not release the names of the boy killed or the girl.
