2,000 students leave for Safety Patrol Trip to D.C.

(WBIR) More than 2,000 local students are on their way to Washington D.C.

Thousands of students, ages 8-10, boarded 41 buses at 7 a.m. for the Safety Patrol Trip to D.C.

The trip is a reward for safety patrol students who come to school early and stay late helping their classmates.

AAA of East Tennessee sponsors trip. It's a tradition that spans 58 years.

They will spend the weekend touring the nation's capital and will return on Monday.
