Advance parking passes sell out for firefly viewing

Within minutes people swooped up all advance parking passes to watch synchronous fireflies in the Smokies.

Park officials opened online reservations at 10 a.m. Wednesday, and ten minutes later they were all gone.

If you missed out on that opportunity, you're next best option is to purchase "Day Before Parking Passes." The park will sell 85 passes online every day before tours starting at 10 a.m. Officials say these parking passes sell out within minutes, so be ready as soon as registration opens.

This year's firefly viewing period runs June 4-11. A parking pass costs $1.50 per vehicle and the shuttle costs $1 per person. There's a limit of one parking pass per household every season.

Visitors will need to park at the Sugarlands Visitors Center and take a trolley to Elkmont. T hey'll also need to bring identification that matches the name on the reservation.

To purchase a pass a day before the event head to http://www.recreation.gov.
