Animal Adventure park opens to the public, so you can meet April the Giraffe

Even though #giraffewatch is over, the friendships that formed out of it are not.

HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. - Millions of people from all over the world watched April the Giraffe give birth live on Facebook, and now you can meet April and her new family in person.

Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York opened to the public Monday for its summer season. It's located about 80 miles south of Syracuse.

About a thousand people who attended the grand opening and got an up close look at baby Tajiri, father Oliver, and, of course, April. Visitors came from as far away as New Hampshire, Vermont, even overseas.

April gave birth to a male calf on April 15. Her pregnancy was the second most live-viewed channel in YouTube’s history, with more than 232 million live views during a seven-week period.

The 24-hour live stream has ended, but Animal Adventure Park puts it up every Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. so fans can see the giraffe family.

Animal Adventure Park has been open for five years.
