BLOUNT COUNTY, TENN. - A local organization helped to celebrate the success of children in Blount County by rewarding them with bicycles on Wednesday.
30 hard-working students were recognized by Bike Elf at their ‘Bikes for Brains and Hard Work’ ceremony, where the students were given a renovated bicycle. The students were recognized for their participation and work in one of nine programs offered by the Boys and Girls Club of Blount County.
Students still have two more opportunities to earn a bike from the organization this year. They can do so by being named ‘Youth of the Year’ or being named to the Fall and Spring honor roll.
Bike Elf is an organization that began in January 2015 with the intent of re-purposing bikes and donating them to children and families who could otherwise not afford a bicycle. The group accepts donated bikes, as well as funds for replacement parts, so that they can be refurbished before being donated to the children.
Bike Elf said it partners with the Boys and Girls Club because it provides a great distribution system to for delivering the bikes to deserving children.
