Carson-Newman's A Capella Choir kicks off Tennessee tour

(WBIR) Carson-Newman University's top choir kicked off its spring tour on Sunday in Knoxville.

The A Cappella Choir's tour began with a performance during West Hills Baptist Church's morning service.

Dr. Eric Thorson directs the choir of forty-five voices from all across the country. Thorson has been the choir conductor since 1983.

The choir's spring tour has been a tradition at Carson-Newman since 1946. This year's performances will include choral classics in addition to modern sacred texts, gospel, and spiritual songs.

According to a press release, the A Capella Choir 2014 spring tour continues Wednesday in Chattanooga. The group then heads west Thursday to Sparta and Murfreesboro. They'll wrap up the tour next Sunday with a morning performance in Nashville and an evening stop in Smithville.
