Investigators revealed the cause of a fire that killed a 68-year-old man in Hawkins County.
Detectives and agents with Tennessee's Arson and Bomb unit determined an electric heater was to blame for starting the fire that killed Eidson resident Elmer Berndt.
On November 25th around 8:30 a.m., the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office responded to a structure fire on Pumpkin Valley Road in Eidson. When they arrived, the residence had completely burned to the ground and they found Berndt's remains inside.
The incident was called in by Berndt's son, Mike, who said he went to the house to check on his father because the two hadn't spoken since the night of November 22. Authorities said the fire had started a couple of days before the son had discovered it.
Authorities said there was no evidence of foul play.
