Rape case against ex-Claiborne Co. school employee moves forward

(WBIR) The case against a former Claiborne County Schools employee, accused of buying beer for a 13-year-old boy and having sex with him, will move forward.

Michelle Lynn Cox, 43, waived her preliminary hearing, which means her case will go to the grand jury.

Her next court date is set for the morning of Feb. 24. She remains free on bond.

Cox worked as the school nutrition field manager and resigned in June.

The victim told investigators that Cox bought him beer at a grocery store before they went to her home in New Tazewell to have sex. The 13-year-old said they also had sex in her van at her home before. The victim's mother told 10News in June that her son was friends with Cox's child.

"I tried to make sure he's safe, but it shows you cant' trust anyone," his mother said. "This has ruined our lives."

10News won't reveal the mother's name in order to protect the child's identity.

Cox is also accused of buying liquor in Knoxville for a minor and a friend.
