Colonial: Pipeline could reopen Sunday

The Colonial Pipeline Company said it could reopen its Line 1 pipeline Sunday afternoon following an explosion Monday in Alabama, the company said late Thursday night.

The Georgia-based company closed down its two main pipelines after the explosion, which killed one worker and injured five others. The company restarted its Line 2, which transports diesel, jet fuel and other products, early Tuesday morning.

"Colonial's team on-site is constantly reassessing our timeline for restoration of service on Line 1. Based upon the newest information Colonial has, we now project a restart of Line 1 for Sunday afternoon," the company said in a statement.

The Colonial Pipeline is one source of fuel for the state of Tennessee. A leak on that pipeline in September led to gas shortages and rising prices at some stations across the South.
